Samuel

[Verse 1]
The autumn leaves are falling down
Like gold across the yard
Four years ago a storm rolled in
And every road got hard
But one man held on tight to faith
And carried both of us through

[Chorus]
And you kept pressing on
When life dealt you a heavy hand
With your eyes upon the Lord
You found the strength to stand
So tonight we light the candles
For every breath you've known
Happy birthday, my brave man
God never left you alone

[Verse 2]
Three months before you turned fifty-nine
They gave us news we feared
Nine times they took you through those doors
Nine times I held back tears
But Samuel, you'd squeeze my hand
And say the Lord is near

[Chorus]
And you kept pressing on
When life dealt you a heavy hand
With your eyes upon the Lord
You found the strength to stand
So tonight we light the candles
For every breath you've known
Happy birthday, my brave man
God never left you alone

[Bridge]
We let those birthdays pass us by
Just grateful you were here
But this October, Samuel
Let's celebrate this year

[Verse 3]
On Halloween the porch lights glow
The children laugh and run
But I just see the man I love
Still standing in the sun
Your courage taught me how to trust
That healing finds its way

[Chorus]
And you kept pressing on
When life dealt you a heavy hand
With your eyes upon the Lord
You found the strength to stand
So tonight we light the candles
For every breath you've known
Happy birthday, Samuel
God never left you alone

[Outro]
Happy birthday, my sweet husband
I thank God you're still mine
Keep pressing on, my darling
We've got so much more time
