Shirley

[Verse 1]
Behind a small-town counter, a shy young waitress stood
I hired her for the morning shift, and knew that life was good
The oldies on the radio, a country song would play
Those hazel eyes looked back at me and stole my breath away

[Chorus]
Oh Shirley, my angel, you hold my heart in your hands
Fifty years of loving, and still I don't understand
How I got so lucky, through every joy and tear
You put us all before yourself, and kept our family near

[Verse 2]
That first date down at Flagstones, October's tender light
Three little boys came into this world and made our house so bright
You gave them all your gentle strength, your patience and your care
Now thirteen grandkids call your name, and Grandma's always there

[Chorus]
Oh Shirley, my angel, you hold my heart in your hands
Fifty years of loving, and still I don't understand
How I got so lucky, through every joy and tear
You put us all before yourself, and kept our family near

[Bridge]
Niagara's waters roaring, with Bill and Tonya near
And Lori right beside us, the memories still so dear

[Verse 3]
Through every storm we weathered, your courage held us all
By campfires under starry skies, you loved it most of all
So here's to fifty seasons, and all the years to come
My devoted, faithful Shirley, you're my forever home

[Chorus]
Oh Shirley, my angel, you hold my heart in your hands
Fifty years of loving, and still I understand
How blessed I've been to have you, through every joy and tear
You put us all before yourself, and kept our family near

[Outro]
My angel, my Shirley, my heart forever true
There's no one in this whole wide world I'd rather give it to
