Still Your Hired Hand
Read the lyrics
[Verse 1] Two little kids at a fellowship hall, Nine and ten, God had a plan for us all, Ninety miles between your town and mine, But we'd meet at camp, and we'd meet in the divine. At fifteen and sixteen, you learned to drive, And something holy came alive. [Chorus] Oh Sam, my faithful, my forever man, You took my hand and walked God's plan, Sixty-three years and I'd do it again, Through the storms and the sun, through thick and thin. Happy birthday to the love of my life, Still your girl, still your wife. [Verse 2] Married young at seventeen and eighteen, Built a life on faith, we didn't wait, You worked those fields from dawn to falling dark, I was your hired hand, you held my heart. Cheri, Micki, Audra, and Macy our son, Oh, look at all the love we've done. [Chorus] Oh Sam, my faithful, my forever man, You took my hand and walked God's plan, Sixty-three years and I'd do it again, Through the storms and the sun, through thick and thin. Happy birthday to the love of my life, Still your girl, still your wife. [Bridge] You buy the land, you count every dime, You push my buttons half the time, But every Sunday you helped me feed our own, No sweeter blessing have I known. [Verse 3] Some years were hard, some the very best, But God above has kept us surely blessed, And when this earthly farm is finally done, Heaven's our home when our day is won. Hand in hand we'll walk that golden shore, Loving you forevermore. [Outro] Happy birthday, my faithful friend, I'll love you, Sam, until the end.
“Oh Sam, my faithful, my forever man, You took my hand and walked God's plan”
Our Story of Love , Farmlife and Faith
1955
We first met each other at the Holdrege, Nebraska A/G curch at a fellowship meeting. urch
The church was having a mortgage burning service so all the neighboring A/G churches came to show support and celebrate with them. As normal kids we weren't interested in that so much so we went downstairs and just talked and got to know each other a little bit.
1955-1963
The following years

We would see each other at church camp in Lexington and at 15 I started sitting by him at family camp. In his senior year he bought a 57 Ford Skyliner convertible and on Sundays he started coming from his home to Kearney to see me. We got engaged at 16 and 17 much to my mom's despair. She wasn't ready to see her baby leave home anytime soon.
October 27, 1963
Our wedding day

We were married at ages 17 and 18 in my parents home in the living room. Pastor L. E. Wilkins officiated the ceremony and his wife played the piano as our good friend Rogene Christiansen sang Mother had a reception for us and then we left to go to Beaver City . We stayed in a motel in Norton KS for that first night and then picked up his brother Leroy whom we took with us to Albuquerque N.M. ??W spent a few days there for our honeymoon. Then back to Beaver City where we spent the majority of our life as farmers.
1963 To the present....2026
Our life on the farm.

I was a town girl so knew nothing about farm life but learned it all over time. We lived in a trailer house next to Sam's parents. Basically in their yard . Cheri was born in 1964, Micki in 1967, Macy in 1968. Audra was born later in 1972 when we lived in Albuquerque for 5 years. We moved there after Dean Lambert wrecked Sam's semi . Sam hauled cattle for Speedway for a couple years We went to church there and Jasper Conner asked Sam to come to work for him so we ended up buying a FHA 235 home there and he worked in plumbing and heating.. Within a year he was the supervisor for the company ABC Mechanical. We built a beautiful home out in the Corrales area and used the equity in that as we decided to come back to Nebraska so our kids could know their roots and family. We then moved to the farm when Sam's dad retired and farmed for 55+ years. I worked outside beside Sam every day . I was his hired hand. But still did my mom duties and fixed meals. I learned to cook from Sam's mom. She was a great cook so she taught me a lot. I did almost everything on the farm. Worked cattle, drove trucks at harvest, chores, fixed fence. put up bins. We worked every day pretty much side by side.
Present
Retirement

We are now retired, living on the Kfarm at Kearney. We will be 80 and 81 in a few short days. Our birthdays are a week apart. His August 31 and mine is September 6. We both have had some major health challenges. I had hoped to be strong to the end and keep living life going out healthy and still going on adventures but alas that's not the case for either of us. One of these days Heaven will beckon us home. We will leave a legacy of faith in God to a family of four children, 15 grandchildren and 20 ....so far ....greats.
After We Are Gone To Heaven
Maybe in the Rapture?

After God takes us home I pray that this circle of our family will be unbroken. That everyone is a Christ follower and makes Him Lord of their life. That we will be together eternally
