John

[Verse 1]
Some folks like a story fancy
I'll just tell it plain and true
'Bout a farm bought on the courthouse steps
Back when all our days were new
Right next door to Grandma and Grandpa
Just an outhouse, so you built on room

[Chorus]
So here's to John, eighty years strong
Hands still working dawn to dark
You give your sweat, your time, your heart
And never count the cost
With a faith that kept us standing
Through every flood and frost

[Verse 2]
We hauled hay and milked the dairy
Sugar Cube came when I'd call
Snowball was my first pony
Wouldn't carry no one else at all
He'd run 'em under low oak branches
And I'd laugh to watch 'em fall

[Chorus]
So here's to John, eighty years strong
Hands still working dawn to dark
You give your sweat, your time, your heart
And never count the cost
With a faith that kept us standing
Through every flood and frost

[Bridge]
Two ponds shining in the moonlight
Gigging frogs and casting lines
Cleaning catch down by the water
Canning every row of vines

[Verse 3]
Now you're eighty and still lifting
What would break a younger man
You've got plenty but don't show it
Never cared for some far land
Just your friends around a table
And a helping hand

[Chorus]
So here's to John, eighty years strong
Hands still working dawn to dark
You gave your sweat, your time, your heart
And you never counted cost
Thank you, Daddy, for the lessons
Not a single one was lost

[Outro]
Old school living, Heaven blessed
Happy birthday, Dad, you're the best
