Donna

[Verse 1]
Morning light comes soft and slow,
Coffee steam and the radio low.
Through all these years, the seasons turned,
Some easy lessons, some hard-earned.
There's a smile that meets me every day,
That lifts the clouds and clears my way.

[Chorus]
Oh Donna, you're the grace I don't deserve,
Steady as the faith you serve.
You forgive me time and time again,
My lover, my laughter, my best friend.
Happy birthday to the heart of me,
The strongest, sweetest soul I'll ever see.

[Verse 2]
You were young when you took my hand,
Left your friends for an army man.
Moved away from all you'd known,
Made a stranger's town a home.
A child of Christ, that's where you stand,
His quiet strength inside your hands.

[Chorus]
Oh Donna, you're the grace I don't deserve,
Steady as the faith you serve.
You forgive me time and time again,
My lover, my laughter, my best friend.
Happy birthday to the heart of me,
The strongest, sweetest soul I'll ever see.

[Bridge]
Our kids, Sherrin and Bob jr.,
Grew up beneath your gentle care.
Now the gray comes soft as snow,
And closer, closer still we grow.

[Verse 3]
78 years, and you shine so bright,
Funny and patient through every night.
You put up with me and my foolish pride,
And love me still, right by my side.
My one wish left, if I could pray,
Is you draw nearer every day.

[Chorus]
Oh Donna, you're the grace I don't deserve,
Steady as the faith you serve.
You forgive me time and time again,
My lover, my laughter, my best friend.
Happy birthday to the heart of me,
The strongest, sweetest soul I'll ever see.

[Outro]
So here's to you, my whole life through,
There'll never be a love as true.
